"Knowing" begins as a surprisingly good mystery with supernatural elements, devolves into an adventure that you wouldn't rush out to see but might stick with if you caught it while channel-surfing, and finally gives up the ghost as a special-effects-laden sci-fi head-scratcher.
It's a shame, really, as director Alex Proyas gets a better performance out of Nicolas Cage than we've seen in ages.
