Legendary Detroit ska band. 1986-2000 (and 1 show in 2006). At last count, there are 38 people who have been in Gangster Fun. We started in 1986 as a joke band. We figured (in 1986) that ska was about the least cool kind of band to get together. Much to our surprise, we were wrong. We released 4 cds, we were on a few compilations, we played a lot of shows, and had a great time. We have played shows as a 4 piece band, as a 13 piece band and every number in between (depending on who showed up on any particular night). We wrote strange songs, and rarely rehearsed. We'd let the drunks in the front row come up and sing a song of their choosing while we played along. We played the "Rocky" theme whenever a fight broke out. We covered songs by Devo, Queen, Kansas, the Doobie Brothers, Nirvana, Duran Duran, Bob Seger, ZZ Top, ACDC and many more, just to test the patience of our "ska-clad" audiences. Oh, and we painted over all of the graffiti (with a lovely "mayflower blue" and pink) in the dressing room of the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. As a result we were chased all over town by bouncers and their friends who claimed that we had painted over Kurt Cobain's signature. We might play more, but we have to do it before the youngest member of the band turns 40.
