The Waterfront Town Center

The Town Center is a component of The Waterfront, an open-air shopping mall created on the former location of a large, historic factory called the Homestead Steel Works. A major strike occurred at the Homestead Works in 1892 while under the ownership of industrialist Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919). It was the second largest and one of the most serious disputes in U.S. labor history. Many of the elements of the former factory survive and are incorporated into The Waterfront's environment, including the pump house and smoke stacks.
